Ibanez RGA742EX-BAM 7 String Electric Guitar

The Ibanez RGA742EX-BAM is built for guitarists ready to move into seven-string territory without the complexity of a floating tremolo. Its contoured RGA body, Wizard II-7 neck and two Quantum 7 pickups combine familiar Ibanez playability with the additional low-string range required for heavier and more extended arrangements.

Seven strings with a familiar 25.5-inch scale

The RGA742EX uses a 25.5-inch scale with a factory low-B seven-string tuning. For players accustomed to six-string electric guitars, the scale length will feel familiar even though the neck is wider. The extra low string makes it easier to play lower riffs and chord voicings without retuning a conventional guitar, although accurate muting becomes more important. The factory string set includes a .059 low string.

Wizard II-7 neck and arched RGA body

The three-piece maple Wizard II-7 neck is designed to feel comparatively thin and flat, supporting quick movement across the fretboard. A jatoba fingerboard carries 24 jumbo frets, while the arched body shape can provide a comfortable forearm and picking-hand position. The meranti body and Black Aurora Burst Matte finish give the model a distinctive character that remains understated onstage.

Quantum humbuckers and five-way switching

Two passive ceramic Quantum 7 humbuckers provide the guitar’s amplified voice. A five-way pickup selector offers alternative pickup combinations, while master Volume and Tone controls give straightforward adjustment. These options help separate rhythm and lead parts and make it easier to dial in cleaner passages without relying entirely on amplifier presets. The final sound depends on your amplifier, gain settings and string choice, so start with moderate EQ before boosting bass-heavy frequencies.

Fixed bridge and practical ownership

The F107 fixed bridge allows individual string-height adjustment and avoids the special setup required by a floating tremolo. This is useful if you frequently change strings or occasionally adjust tuning. The RGA742EX-BAM suits rock and metal players exploring seven-string rhythm work, but it can also serve anyone seeking a wider note range. Barbad Musical Instruments can help compare seven-string models and choose suitable string gauges for use in the UAE.
