The Korg LP-180-BK is a slim, black digital home piano for students and adults who want the essential experience of an 88-key weighted keyboard without a large furniture-style cabinet. It keeps the controls simple and focuses on playing: ten useful sounds, built-in speakers, a matching stand and a complete three-pedal unit. Its compact depth is useful when fitting a piano into a living room, teaching studio or smaller apartment.
Natural Weighted Hammer Action for regular lessons
The LP-180 uses Korg’s Natural Weighted Hammer Action (NH) keyboard, which feels heavier in the lower register and lighter higher up. Three touch-response choices allow the player to change how playing strength affects the sound. That helps students develop dynamics and balance across the full 88-key range. It is not the same keyboard mechanism as Korg’s RH3 models such as the LP-380, so players prioritising the most detailed weighted touch should compare the two before choosing.
Ten sounds and simple practice controls
The sound selection covers two acoustic pianos, two electric pianos, harpsichord, clavinet, vibraphone, pipe organ, electric organ and strings. Built-in reverb and chorus enrich the sound without requiring complex menus. The piano supports up to 120-note polyphony, or 60 notes for stereo voices, which is worth understanding when using the sustain pedal with dense passages. It also includes basic transpose and fine-tuning controls for playing with other instruments.
Speakers, headphones and connectivity
Two internal speakers are powered by 11 watts per channel, so no amplifier is required for everyday practice. There are two headphone sockets, useful for quiet sessions or a teacher and student listening together. Those headphone sockets can also function as basic audio outputs. The LP-180 provides a standard MIDI OUT connection, but not the USB computer connection found on some newer models. If you plan to use music software regularly, that distinction could influence your decision.
Slim cabinet, pedals and practical home setup
The LP-180 is approximately 136.5 cm wide and 27.4 cm deep with its stand, making it particularly suitable when floor depth is limited. Its weight is about 23.3 kg with the stand, excluding the pedal unit. Damper, soft and sostenuto pedals are supplied, with half-pedalling support for the damper and soft functions. Choose the LP-180 if a neat, simple practice instrument is your priority; compare the B2SP for a different home-piano package or LP-380 for an RH3 keyboard and broader sounds.
