PRS SE J22PXMXN12J Silver Sky John Mayer Signature Electric Guitar Stone Blue

The PRS SE Silver Sky Maple in Stone Blue brings John Mayer’s familiar single-coil guitar concept to a more accessible SE instrument. Its poplar body, maple neck and maple fingerboard offer a crisp, responsive feel, while the three 635JM “S” pickups deliver the clear, expressive tones players associate with this design. The Stone Blue finish gives the guitar a relaxed, understated appearance without altering the model’s core performance features.

Three PRS 635JM “S” single-coil pickups

The SE Silver Sky Maple has three PRS-designed 635JM “S” pickups selected by a five-way blade switch. That gives access to individual neck, middle and bridge sounds, as well as the familiar combined pickup positions. The tones can be bright and articulate without needing complicated controls, making the guitar well suited to clean fingerpicked parts, pick-driven rhythm work, blues and lightly driven leads. One volume and two tone controls allow quick adjustments during a song.

Maple fingerboard, neck profile and playing comfort

The 25.5-inch scale, 22 frets and 635JM neck shape follow familiar vintage-inspired proportions. An 8.5-inch fingerboard radius provides a comfortable surface for chord playing while leaving room for melodic lines and bends. The bolt-on maple neck and maple fingerboard give this edition a different tactile and visual character from a rosewood-fingerboard Silver Sky. When comparing guitars, consider neck shape and fretboard material alongside pickup sound, because both affect how an instrument feels in daily practice.

Two-point tremolo and useful hardware

PRS fits the SE Silver Sky with a two-point steel tremolo, vintage-style tuning machines and a synthetic bone nut. The bridge supports controlled pitch movement and familiar playing techniques, while a proper setup and appropriate string choice help keep the instrument comfortable and stable. The inverted Silver Sky headstock and bird inlays give the guitar a recognisable visual identity without adding complexity to the controls.

Who should choose this SE Silver Sky Maple?

This model suits players who want the clarity of three single coils and a responsive, comfortable guitar for varied clean-to-crunch musical styles. Its simple switching layout also makes it approachable for intermediate players developing more precise picking dynamics. A suitable amplifier makes a major difference to the tones you hear, so compare both instruments and amplifiers before making a decision.

The Stone Blue finish and buying advice

Stone Blue is an appealing option if you prefer a cooler, understated finish and a maple-fretboard feel. For guitarists who spend time on clean chords, blues phrasing, funk rhythm work or pop leads, the SE Silver Sky Maple offers a particularly useful range. If you usually play with heavier distortion, compare its single-coil voice with a PRS model fitted with humbuckers.
