The TAMA PWB147-GWB STARPHONIC is a 14 x 7-inch walnut snare drum designed around a warm, substantial mid-low voice. Its dark Gloss Black Walnut Burl finish reveals the outer wood grain, while the STARPHONIC hardware combines controlled overtones with convenient head changes and precise snare adjustment.
Walnut shell and sound
The shell consists of six plies of American black walnut with an additional black walnut burl outer ply, in a 6 mm shell construction. TAMA describes the result as a warm, full-bodied sound with a slightly mellow attack. The Grooved Hoop helps control overtones while preserving the drum’s characteristic response.
STARPHONIC hardware
Super Sensitive Hi-Carbon snare wires support clear articulation and sensitivity. The Freedom Lug and Claw Hook design allows drumhead removal without fully removing every tension rod. A ratchet-style snare tension adjuster helps make fine adjustments, while non-loosening rubber gaskets help the tuning hardware remain secure during playing.
