Vox AP3-AC – amPlug 3 AC30 Headphone Guitar Amplifier

The VOX amPlug 3 AC30 (AP3-AC) is a compact headphone amplifier for electric guitarists who enjoy the classic VOX sound but need a convenient way to practise quietly. Plug it into your guitar, connect headphones and start playing without moving a full-size amplifier. The third-generation design uses an analog-style amplifier circuit and offers two channels, built-in effects and rhythm accompaniment for more varied practice sessions.

Two AC30-inspired channels

The AC30 version offers a warm Normal-channel sound and a brighter Top Boost voice. This makes it easier to move between rounded, cleaner phrases and more cutting guitar parts without changing devices. Gain and Volume controls let you adapt the response for your instrument and listening level. These are headphone-amp interpretations of AC30 tonal characteristics, rather than a full tube amplifier circuit.

Effects and rhythm patterns for practice

The AC30 model includes tremolo, chorus, delay and reverb effect options, offering movement, depth or ambience without needing a pedalboard. There are also nine onboard rhythm patterns, useful for practising steady timing, chord changes and lead phrasing. A basic metronome-style option helps when you need a less distracting practice reference. Learn the controls gradually so you can set a suitable balance between your guitar and the rhythm playback.

Lightweight, battery-powered setup

The AP3-AC has a 3.5 mm stereo headphone output and an auxiliary input for compatible external audio. It runs on two AAA batteries, so there is no separate power supply to manage. A folding plug and compact body make it practical for home use and travelling, although your guitar’s output-jack position and headphone connector should be checked for a comfortable fit. It does not contain its own loudspeaker and is intended for listening through headphones or a suitable connected setup.

Who is the amPlug 3 AC30 for?

This model is a good fit for guitarists who want quick, quiet access to familiar VOX-inspired tones without setting up a conventional practice amp. It is especially useful in shared spaces or when travelling light. If you need room-filling sound or to rehearse with a drummer, choose an appropriate speaker amplifier instead.
