Kawai CA401W Digital Home Piano With Bench

The Kawai CA401W is a Concert Artist digital home piano in Premium Satin White that brings genuine wooden-key construction to a more accessible price level within Kawai’s range. Its Grand Feel Compact action gives committed learners and experienced players a nuanced playing surface, while the cabinet and pedal unit provide the familiar layout of a dedicated home piano. It is a good candidate for those who care most about keyboard feel rather than a huge number of instrumental voices.

Grand Feel Compact action with real wooden keys

All 88 keys use long wooden keysticks with a seesaw-style action inspired by acoustic grand pianos. Graded hammer weighting creates a heavier feel in the bass and lighter response in the treble, helping pianists refine control across the keyboard. Triple sensors support accurate repeated notes, while simulated let-off and counterweights add tactile detail. Kawai’s Ivory Touch surfaces are intended to give a secure, comfortable feel when practising longer passages.

Shigeru Kawai grand piano sound

The CA401 uses Progressive Harmonic Imaging with individual 88-key sampling and SK-EX Competition Grand and Kawai EX piano voices. Its sound engine supports up to 192-note polyphony, preserving detail in sustained chords and pedalling. Nineteen onboard sounds offer musical variety without distracting from the central purpose of acoustic-style piano practice. Players can adjust selected tonal settings and add reverb to suit different rooms and repertoire.

Four speakers and modern practice features

A 40-watt four-speaker system provides balanced sound in a home environment, while headphone support is useful for quiet playing. Bluetooth MIDI and Audio allow compatible phones or tablets to work with piano-learning applications or play music through the instrument. Built-in lesson pieces, a metronome and a recorder provide straightforward ways to repeat difficult passages, listen back and assess progress. The control layout and OLED screen keep settings accessible without dominating the playing experience.

White cabinet, three pedals and who it suits

The Satin White cabinet has a traditional appearance with a sliding key cover and a three-pedal layout. Damper, soft and sostenuto functions support increasingly advanced repertoire, including half-pedalling on the damper. At around 136 cm wide, 48.6 cm deep and 57.5 kg, it is a substantial instrument that deserves a permanent location and planned delivery. Choose the CA401 if wooden-key touch is a major priority; step up to the CA501 for a stronger speaker system and additional sound options.
