DigiTech WHAMMYV-01 Pitch Shift Guitar Pedal

The DigiTech Whammy V brings expressive pitch shifting to the guitar pedalboard. Its large treadle lets you move between pitches as you play, opening the door to dramatic octave bends, dive-bomb effects and harmonised lines. It is a creative effect rather than a conventional tuner: the point is to reshape the pitch of your playing in real time.

Classic and Chords modes

The Whammy V has two pitch-processing modes. Classic retains the character of the familiar single-note Whammy sound, making it a natural choice for solos, riffs and dramatic bends. Chords mode is designed to track and shift fuller chord voicings more smoothly. This distinction is useful if you alternate between lead guitar and rhythm parts, because a pitch effect that sounds exciting on single notes may behave differently when several strings ring at once.

Whammy, harmony and detune effects

Use the selector to choose an available Whammy, Harmony or Detune setting, then rock the expression pedal to control the amount of effect. Whammy sounds move the played pitch; Harmony settings add intervals to your original notes; Detune produces subtle or more pronounced doubling textures. You can create rising transitions, contrasting octave sounds or wide, animated parts within an arrangement. It is worth experimenting with clean and driven guitar sounds because distortion changes how strongly the processed notes stand out.

MIDI control and signal routing

The pedal includes MIDI input for remote control of effect selection and expression-pedal position in compatible MIDI setups. Standard quarter-inch audio input and output connect it with your guitar and amplifier or other effects. True bypass switching takes the effect out of the signal path when disengaged. The Whammy V requires a compatible external 9V DC supply; check the adapter specification rather than substituting an ordinary low-current pedal supply.
