The Kawai CA59R combines a traditional Premium Rosewood finish with the refined touch of Kawai’s Concert Artist series. Its wooden-key action and Shigeru Kawai concert-grand samples suit pianists who want a dedicated home instrument for regular practice and expressive playing. Kawai has discontinued the CA59, so this listing is best considered with the actual package and warranty verified rather than viewed as a newly introduced model.
Wooden keys and acoustic-style control
Kawai’s Grand Feel Compact keyboard action uses long wooden keys with a seesaw-style movement, graded hammers and triple-sensor note detection. Ivory Touch key surfaces, simulated let-off and key counterweights help provide a controlled feel for quiet passages, repeated notes and more demanding repertoire. These are meaningful details for students refining tone production and for experienced pianists who want consistency between daily home practice and an acoustic piano.
Shigeru Kawai grand piano sound
The CA59 uses Harmonic Imaging XL with individual 88-key sampling, including Shigeru Kawai SK-EX and SK-5 concert grand piano sounds. The instrument’s responsive sound engine gives players room to shape phrasing and dynamic contrast rather than simply select a single fixed-volume sample. Its built-in recording and learning features support listening back to performances, working through particular passages and making practice more structured.
Four speakers, Bluetooth and quiet practice
A high-fidelity four-speaker system with 100 watts of total amplification is designed to reproduce a spacious, detailed piano sound in the room. Bluetooth MIDI and Audio connections can be used with compatible learning apps or audio playback, while headphone features allow concentrated practice when shared spaces need to stay quiet. USB audio functions also support recording and playback, useful for lessons and self-assessment.
Cabinet, pedals and buying considerations
The CA59 includes a furniture-style cabinet, music rest and a three-pedal arrangement for damper, soft and sostenuto technique. This is a substantial home instrument that requires a suitable playing position and careful handling rather than frequent transport. Its overall value depends not just on the specification, but on the exact unit, included bench, condition and after-sales arrangements.
The Premium Rosewood finish and choosing carefully
Premium Rosewood gives the CA59R a warmer, furniture-like appearance than black or white alternatives. Its keyboard and sound capabilities are the same core design as the other CA59 finishes. If you are comparing the CA59R with the newer CA501 or more portable ES-series pianos, consider wooden-key action, speaker power and permanence in your music room.
