Kawai CX-202B Digital Home Piano With Bench

The Kawai CX202B offers an appealing step up for home pianists who want a realistic weighted keyboard, an attractive cabinet and useful modern practice features. Its Responsive Hammer Compact II action and Shigeru Kawai concert-grand sound make it suitable for beginners, advancing students and adults returning to piano. The CX202 places particular emphasis on touch, easy daily use and an enjoyable listening experience in a living room or dedicated practice area.

Responsive Hammer Compact II keyboard

The 88-key Responsive Hammer Compact II mechanism uses graded weighting, with a heavier response in the bass and a lighter feel in the treble. Its triple-sensor detection helps the instrument respond accurately when notes are repeated or played legato. Matte key surfaces offer a comfortable touch during longer sessions. Compared with the more affordable CX102, the CX202’s upgraded action is one of the main reasons to consider the higher model, especially for players progressing into more demanding repertoire.

Shigeru Kawai sound and expressive dynamics

Kawai’s Harmonic Imaging piano technology reproduces the SK-EX concert grand across the keyboard, with up to 192-note polyphony. That helps maintain clarity when combining complex chords with sustained notes and pedal use. Damper resonance and adjustable tonal settings provide additional musical control. The result is intended to reward careful articulation rather than sound identical at every touch. It works well for classical lessons and also gives an expressive foundation for contemporary music.

40W speakers, private practice and connectivity

A built-in 40-watt stereo speaker system gives the CX202 more headroom than the smaller CX102. Bluetooth MIDI and Audio connectivity allow compatible devices to exchange performance data and play audio through the piano, making it easier to use learning tools or practise along with recordings. Kawai’s PianoRemote and PiaBookPlayer apps support additional functions, while headphones allow quiet playing at home. Built-in lesson pieces and a recorder provide practical ways to track progress.

Cabinet, pedals and choosing the CX202

The cabinet includes a sliding key cover, music rest and three-pedal arrangement, so it feels like a permanent home instrument rather than a portable keyboard. The damper pedal supports half-pedalling for more refined sustaining technique. Consider the CX202 if touch sensitivity and a more capable sound system matter to you; choose a smaller, lighter piano if portability takes priority.
