The Laney Ironheart IRT-SLS is an unusually compact hybrid guitar amplifier head for players who want aggressive rock and metal tones, a dedicated clean channel and serious studio connectivity. Its preamp uses two ECC83 tubes, while the power section offers a wide output range for different cabinets and performance situations. Despite its small size, this is a full-featured amplifier head rather than a practice pedal, with separate clean, rhythm and lead channels and practical recording tools.
Three Ironheart channels with responsive gain control
The IRT-SLS gives guitarists Clean, Rhythm and Lead channels so an entire set can be covered without repeatedly changing amplifier settings. The clean channel can provide a clear foundation for pedals, while the rhythm and lead channels offer progressive amounts of overdrive. Separate EQ controls allow these voices to be shaped independently, and a footswitchable boost helps a solo stand out without needing a separate distortion pedal. A built-in digital reverb adds space, while the effects loop allows compatible delay and modulation pedals to be integrated after the preamp.
Power modes and matching the right speaker cabinet
The power amplifier includes high-power and standard modes. Output depends on speaker impedance: Laney specifies up to 300 watts RMS into 4 ohms in high-power mode, but this is not 300 watts at every cabinet impedance. For example, the figure is 150 watts into 8 ohms and 75 watts into 16 ohms at that setting. Correct matching of speaker impedance is important for reliable operation, so choose a compatible cabinet and check Laney’s manual before connection.
USB recording, re-amping and silent work
An integrated USB audio interface allows the guitarist to record a processed sound and a dry signal to a compatible computer. The dedicated re-amp connection means a previously recorded dry performance can later be played back through the amplifier’s preamp to explore different tones without replaying the part. Speaker-emulated direct outputs and an internal dummy load also support silent recording. This combination is particularly helpful for home studios, where microphone volume and room sound can become obstacles.

At approximately 3.5 kg, the IRT-SLS is easier to carry than a conventional large valve head.
